About Us

Quench Theatre is a theatre company running on the Central Coast of NSW that is committed to creating theatrical performances that promote excellence within a Christian environment.

The focus of Quench Theatre’s productions is to provide quality theatre that is relevant, accessible and affordable to the community on the Central Coast.

OUR PHILOSOPHY: Quench Theatre prides itself on keeping theatre theatrical by capitalizing on its essence; that is the actor/audience relationship. In this area film can never compete because of its two dimensional nature. We believe that theatre should not merely attempt to reproduce reality but to reveal, through its elements, what is beneath the surface. To make the invisible seen, to transport the audience to a place they would be unable to arrive at through other mediums.

Rouba Elhage

Quench Theatre is headed up by director, actor, writer and drama teacher, Rouba Elhage.

With a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in Education majoring in Drama, Rouba has been heavily involved in theatre since 1992. As a high school Drama teacher since 1997, Rouba has directed highly acclaimed school plays and musicals and has entered students into drama competitions around the state. In 2001, four of Rouba’s drama students were selected by the Board of Studies to be part of the OnStage program for their HSC Group Performance. In 2003 Rouba directed the Rock Eistedfod production ‘Magdalene’ that came 2nd in the Grand Final at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. In 2006 and 2007 she entered Year 11 students into the Hunter Regions ‘Mindplay’ competition making it through to the grand final and coming 2nd place in 2006 for ‘Media Puppets’, a play about eating disorders.

In 2008 Rouba entered four of her drama students into the state Theatresports Schools Competition and after competing against approximately 100 schools from around the state the students made it all the way to the Grand Final where not only did they have the privilege of performing at Sydney’s prestigious Enmore Theatre but also came in 2nd Place.

Outside from her work as a drama teacher Rouba has run drama workshops, been involved in the NIDA Open program, been invited to schools and camps to curate performances and mark HSC Drama, adjudicated the Hunter Regional Schools Shakespeare Competition and is an accredited Theatresports Coach. Rouba has also taught drama at a tertiary level, lecturing at the Oxford Falls School of Creative Arts and at Hillsong Creative Arts College. In 2004 Rouba wrote and directed ‘Three’ which was produced at the Peninsula Theatre. This production takes an insightful look at the Biblical story of creation and the life of Jesus from the perspective of the Trinity. The play was a huge success and Quench Theatre is looking forward to a return season sometime in the near future. Rouba’s latest directorial achievement was William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream held at the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre in February 2008. The production raised over $5000 for the charity New Hope International and was a huge success.
